Weleda has more than 90 years of experience in manufacturing natural cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. In line with their motto – in harmony with nature and the human being – Weleda is committed to treat nature in a responsible and caring way. The high quality and availability of their raw materials is secured through biodynamic cultivation in their own medicinal herb gardens, or by certified wild collection, or close cooperation with long-term contractors.

Weleda place great emphasis on sustainable and socially responsible trade, more commonly known as fair trade. Weleda consistently avoid synthetic dyes and fragrances or ‘nature-identical’ preservatives. Only natural essential oils are used for the perfuming of their products.

Q. Do you use any synthetic ingredients?
We use only natural oils and plant extracts. All Weleda products are FREE of synthetic preservatives, fragrances, colorants and raw materials derived from mineral oils, as well as genetically modified organisms (GMO’s). Our products are instead FULL of the highest quality, pure and natural ingredients for your body.

Q. How do you test the efficacy of your products?
We do not test our ingredients or skincare products on animals. It is unnecessary for us to do so, as the plant materials that makeup our pure formulations have been used internally and externally for countless centuries. Long before animal-testing was introduced, all “testing” was done on humans, establishing a system of trial and error. Thus, many materials were established as safe and effective. As a result, Weleda’s use of raw materials has a long history of safe usage. We ensure that our biodynamically grown ingredients and those provided by our partners have not been tested on animals.

Q. Are Weleda products cruelty free?
We get asked all the time about animal testing and whether our natural and organic cosmetics are cruelty free. The answer is yes they most certainly are! Weleda has never tested any of its individual ingredients nor finished beauty products on animals. We don’t carry any bunny symbols on our packs because we are a global brand with international packaging, instead we have the NATRUE seal on our products. Animal testing is fundamentally against our and NATRUE’s underlying values and ethics.

Q. What type of packaging do you use?
We employ only the safest materials for our packaging to protect and preserve both the product formulation and the environment. In addition, we have designed our unique packaging for easy use and durability. We utilise different types of materials including: glass, food grade plastic such as PET, PE/PP and rHDPE (coex) packaging as well as aluminium tubes with a protective coating.

All of our inner packaging is recyclable, however we advise to check with your local council on which items are accepted in your kerbside recycling bin as there is currently no standard system in place in Australia. Items such as spray bottle tops, lids and pumps may have to be processed via specialised recycling systems such as TerraCycle. All of our outer cartons are 100% recyclable in your kerbside collection.

Q. Why do you use glass and aluminium tubes to package some of your products?
Glass and aluminium tubes are used to package some of our premier formulations due to the pure ingredient composition of the products. Natural substances, such as essential oils, are “living,” making them extremely volatile. Both glass and aluminium do not react with the formulations within, eliminating oxygenation of the products. All aluminium tubes are free of nickel and are lined with a protective resin to avoid any interaction between the product and the aluminium material.
